Legacy Giving: Your Impact, Your Encore
Encore Community Services has spent decades uplifting older New Yorkers with dignity, connection, and care. Your legacy can ensure that this vital work continues—providing meals, companionship, and life-enhancing programs for generations to come.
Whether you’re a longtime supporter, a family member, or someone whose life has been touched by Encore, planned giving allows you to make a lasting difference.
Ways to Leave Your Legacy
Wills and Trusts
A simple sentence in your will or living trust can sustain Encore’s mission far into the future. You retain full control of your assets during your lifetime, and your gift ensures that older adults continue to thrive with support and respect.
You can choose to leave Encore:
- A specific item
- A specific amount of money
- A percentage of your estate
To leave a specific dollar amount, you can use this language:
“I give, devise, and bequeath [$XX or XX%] to Encore Community Services, 13-3104293, currently located at 630 9th Avenue, New York, NY 10036, or its successor-in-interest, to be used for general operating support.”
To leave a percentage of your estate, you could use this language:
“I give, devise, and bequeath XX [fill in percentage] percent of my Residuary Estate to Encore Community Services, 13-3104293, currently doing business at 630 9th Avenue, New York, NY 10036, or its successor-in-interest, to be used for general operating purposes.”
Note: A specific dollar amount comes “off the top” of an estate, or before any deductions are made. A percentage donation is made from what’s left after your other gifts are accounted for.

Retirement Assets
One of the easiest and most effective ways to support Encore Community Services is to name Encore as the beneficiary of your retirement assets. This can include any tax-deferred account—such as a 401(k), IRA, 403(b), or other employer-sponsored plan.
It’s straightforward because all you need to do is complete a beneficiary designation form, which is typically available for download on your plan’s website or through your financial advisor, and can usually be updated anytime without legal assistance.
It’s also a smart choice: as a registered nonprofit, Encore receives your gift in full without paying income or estate taxes. By contrast, if you designate an individual (other than your spouse) as beneficiary—say, a niece or nephew—estate and deferred income taxes could reduce their inheritance by up to 30 percent.
Designate Encore Community Services as your retirement plan beneficiary using our Federal Tax ID 13-3104293.

Life Insurance
You can transfer ownership of a policy or name Encore as a beneficiary. This choice may offer tax benefits while supporting vital services for older adults. It’s a flexible way to make a meaningful impact, often requiring minimal effort while leaving a lasting legacy that benefits generations to come.

Real Estate
Is your home, vacation retreat, or investment property your largest asset? These are classic examples of appreciated real estate—and they can become a powerful Encore legacy.
You can donate all or part of your property to Encore Community Services as either:
- a current gift, or
- a future gift through your will or living trust
When you give appreciated real estate, you:
- avoid capital gains tax on its appreciation
- claim a charitable income tax deduction based on fair market value
- continue living in or using the property if you choose
